Is the customs clearance for international air freight to South Korea fast?

Clearance time: Under normal circumstances, the process is relatively fast. The clearance efficiency at Incheon Airport is high. For parcels or small shipments with complete documents, they are usually released within 1 to 2 working days; if there is a need for inspection, sensitive product names, or underreporting of value, it may take up to 3 to 7 days.

Korean regulations: Personal items with a value of ≤ 150 US dollars can be cleared easily; items over 150 US dollars or for sale must go through general trade declaration.

Personal items vs commercial goods

Purpose: Personal items = for personal use or as gifts, not for secondary sale; Commercial goods = for trade sales, production raw materials, or commercial samples.

Recipient: For personal items, the recipient is a natural person and uses the personal clearance code PCCC; for commercial items, the recipient is a company and requires a Korean business registration number BRN.

Declaration documents: Personal items are simple, including identity proof + simple declaration; Commercial items require commercial invoices, packing lists, and for some categories, certification and quarantine documents.

Tax rate and inspection: Personal items are exempt from customs duties within the duty-free quota; Commercial items are taxed based on the customs HS code and have a higher inspection probability.

It is strictly prohibited to disguise bulk commercial goods as personal items for declaration, which will result in seizure of goods, fines, or even return.
