Hong Kong Airlines has officially announced that it will launch a new direct air route to Melbourne starting from December 12th
Hong Kong Airlines announced that it will launch a new direct flight route to Melbourne on December 12, 2025.
This new route will operate three times a week and be flown by a two-tier Airbus A330-300 aircraft of the airline.
Representatives from Hong Kong Airlines, Melbourne Airport and the Victorian government held a signing ceremony at Melbourne Airport to commemorate this milestone.
Jeff Sun, the president of Hong Kong Airlines, said in his speech at the ceremony: "This year has been a year of significant progress in our Australian market strategy." Following the resumption of the Gold Coast route in January and the opening of the Sydney route in June, we are delighted to have added Melbourne as another important destination within just six months. This makes Hong Kong Airlines the second local airline to fly directly to major Australian cities, marking 2025 as an important milestone in our international transformation."
Lorie Argus, the chief executive of Melbourne Airport, said that the arrival of Hong Kong Airlines will provide more options and greater capacity for one of Asia's largest international hubs.
The growth of our international market demonstrates the significance of competition and choice, which is why we are very pleased to welcome Hong Kong Airlines to join us today. Hong Kong is our fourth-largest international market at Melbourne Airport, so I expect there will be strong demand for this service.
The a330-300 aircraft of Hong Kong Airlines flying to Melbourne is equipped with 24 1-2-1 flat business class seats and 279 2-4-2 economy class seats.
The new flights departing from Hong Kong will take off at 23:10 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and arrive in Melbourne at 13:00 the next day.
They return every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, flying from Melbourne to Hong Kong at 13:00 and landing at 19:00.
The airline currently operates flights to over 30 destinations.
