Is the probability of customs inspection for international express deliveries high?
Many senders are worried that their packages will be inspected by customs. In fact, the inspections are not random. Customs has a standardized risk screening system. Different categories, declaration methods, and channels have vastly different inspection rates. Having a list of high-risk goods can effectively reduce the probability of being detained.
Overall inspection rate: For ordinary general goods that are truthfully declared by individuals, the inspection rate is less than 5%; for cross-border bulk commercial goods, the inspection rate is 15% to 30%; for sensitive goods and low-declaration packages, the inspection rate is as high as over 60%. In developed countries in Europe and America, intelligent inspection is the main method; in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America, the proportion of manual inspection is higher, and it is more likely to detain the goods.
The first category of high-risk goods: all kinds of electrical products, accompanying batteries, and power banks. Lithium batteries pose aviation safety hazards. The customs will verify the UN38.3 and MSDS transportation assessment reports. Those without certification will be directly detained; pure batteries are prohibited for transportation through many channels and will be returned after inspection.
The second category includes liquids, powders, and pastes: cosmetic raw materials, chemical powders, protein powder, and facial mask pastes. The customs cannot quickly determine the composition. They default to considering them as high-risk items, and the probability of opening the boxes for inspection is extremely high. Without component descriptions, the goods will be directly detained.
The third type of brand counterfeit products and unauthorized licensed goods: unauthorized goods of well-known brands such as LV, Nike, Apple, etc. Once inspected, they will all be confiscated and destroyed. The sender's violation record will also be kept.
The fourth type of declared non-compliant packages: the product names are vaguely described as "gifts and groceries", the declared value is significantly lower than the actual value, new and old goods are mixed, and the quantity on the shipping label does not match. The system automatically marks them as high-risk and requires manual unpacking.
The fifth category of animal and plant-related products: cooked meat products, seeds, handicrafts made from plants and herbs, Chinese medicinal materials. Quarantine requirements are strict in Australia, New Zealand and the European Union. Almost 100% of the items are inspected, and most are prohibited from entry.
Low-risk goods reference: Pure cotton clothing, plastic daily necessities, paper documents, acrylic ornaments and other general goods without brands or liquids/powders are subject to truthful declaration and are rarely detained.
Reduce inspection techniques: Sensitive goods are handled through dedicated sensitive channels, and complete certification is obtained; detailed item names are declared, and the value of the goods is truthfully filled in; bulk goods are classified and packaged separately, and high-risk categories are not mixed together, significantly reducing customs interceptions.
