The third direct international shipping from Gothenburg Port helps reduce costs and increase efficiency in China Europe trade
CMA CGM has opened a direct flight route to Asia at Gothenburg Port, marking a historic milestone. This development marks the first time in the 400 year history of Gothenburg Port that three independent container direct shipping routes connect Gothenburg with Asia each week, with the other two routes operated by Maersk/Hapag Lloyd and MSC.

Klais Sandmark, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Gothenburg Port, said, "This is the first time in Gothenburg Port's 400 year history that there are three direct routes to Asia, so it is certainly special and exciting, but also logical. Trade between Sweden and Asia has been growing for a long time, with three different shipping companies visiting three times a week, and the conditions for sustained growth have never been better than now
In 2024, approximately 700000 containers will be transported between Sweden and Asia, with the majority passing through Gothenburg. Sweden's exports mainly include forest products, machinery, and industrial components, while imports from Asia mainly include consumer goods, electronics, clothing, and food.
The surge in Asian trade has set a new record for Gothenburg's container volume. In early 2025, MSC launched its own direct Asian service, and Maersk's Gemini partnership with Hapag Lloyd turned Gothenburg into its main European hub.
Now, with the addition of CMA CGM, the port has further strengthened its position as the hub of Nordic Asia trade. The new Dafei shipping service will dock at the following ports: Ningbo Shanghai Yantian Singapore Tangier Dunkirk Southampton Gothenburg Gdansk Le Havre Southampton Port Klang Ningbo.
All three Asian routes stop at Gothenburg Container Terminal operated by APM terminals, strengthening the port's increasingly important position in global trade.
